Hi, everybody!
I'm from Brazil.
Stereotypes are there to be discussed and shared among us: we also can have fun with them.
As adults, we don't have enough time to think about them...

Hello, everybody!
Well Brazilian media really dislike to say good things about Portugal and Argentina without making some jokes about them.
Brazilians are very provocative, and I think it's part of our sense of humour....

Steretypes are also part of what we are. They kind of tell a partial truth about who we really are. Do they?

Ola pessoal, em especial a nossa amiga Marysia, ca' estamos outra vez atraidos pelo tema
STEREOTYPES
Stereotypes in general, we have referred to them in other threads, for example “ The National Character...”
Here you have focused it to Brazil versus Portugal.
What can we say?
Well, we are a Brazilian/Portuguese couple, that have been or still are dealing with lots of stereotypes related to our own countries....
We may agree to almost what have been said till now....
....and want to add that rivalry between them is....just a joke...we mean it doesn’t exist...it’s not real...
On the other hand Brazil can’t be seen like any other European country for the simply fact that in reality is a federation of twenty eight states many of them are even bigger than those countries
Brazil has little or nothing to do with Europe...but Portugal has lot to do with Brazil ....it’s not just the common language...it’s much more than that...

I came across to another Ivan Lessa’s writings…( a Brazilian journalist of BBC)
He’s not one of my favourites. I very often felt he goes too far on his MORDACITY.
Faby, my wife brought him to my attention again.
This time I found him….just ….HILARIOUS
I couldn’t resist to share it with all of you especially all the recent Brazilian posters.

I really feel sorry for Marysia despite her great Spanish language knowledge she may quite well …be lost in translation…. Losing the best bits of it.
Any way it was really funny to find out ….that him ( Ivan Lessa ) could catch ( pick up) the way the English look towards the Scottish ( stereotype? )….despite being part of the United Kingdom….for long time….they still see them as just ANOTHER FOREIGNERS

Our second last entry was too personal to a theme that is really vast.
It may help the Portuguese/Brazilian listeners/readers to have a quick look in to another BBC (Brazil) journalist writings www.bbc.co.uk/portuguese/reporterbbc/story/2007/11/071120_imigracao_np.shtml
I feel my self that the reason why we the Portuguese easy get into the Brazilian society is mainly due to some of our characteristics…hard-workers ...and tighter.. (the Brazilians call it “pao duro”…which I think in English would mean ...we are penny-wise but not pound-foolish…in other words we don’t waste our money.)
Most of the Portuguese that went to Brazil some decades ago ... were farmers or construction workers….but a lot of them turned in millionaires….they still are millionaires….they are part of the Brazilian “socialite”…they made their “El Dorado”
On the other hand the old Europe is not easy for them….the Brazilians….and Portugal is part of it.
Being able to speak the same language is indeed no
